Full Figure Paintings

Many of the commissioned paintings That I have undertaken are of either family ancestors or of otherwise named individuals, depicted in settings personally relevant to each. I can work with old photos that you may have , but if not can still show how your forebearer would have looked in uniform

The extensive research that I undertake for each figure therfore encompasses not only uniform details but also the exact locations that they may have been, with as much accuracy as possible, seeking out contemporary images in order to do so.

Take as an example Private Newman, above, mortally wounded at the Battle of Boer’s Head in 1916, in the Richebourg area. Until recently the family had no known photo of him until the grainy newspaper image you can see cropped up.

I was able to show him in front of the ruins of the church at Richebourg in the uniform and equipment as laid out in the standing orders, gleaned from his units war diary

Head and Shoulder Portraits

Below you will see some examples of previous portrait commissions together with the reference photograph supplied by the client.

The photo can be either of your relative already in uniform or I can dress the portrait in whatever uniform you wish.

The main thing is that the portrait you supply is where possible of a reasonable quality – the final portrait will be much larger than the original photo around 30 x 40cms on average , therefore a sufficient amount of detail will be needed.

Our Happy Clients!

“Perfect” what great detail! This portrait (RAF Pilot 2nd World War) would definitely be passed on down through the generations as a family heirloom. I am looking forward to presenting this to my other half for his 40th birthday later on this year. Many Thanks

I just wanted to email you to say thank you for doing the painting of Frank and the research that went into finding an Irish uniform, he loved
it and it was a great 40th birthday present.

Thanks again.

Your painting of my husband’s grandfather… arrived today. It is quite superb and I found it rather an emotional moment when I first set eyes on it. Thank you so much.

I have now seen your painting and love it. I am absolutely thrilled with it, it is exactly as I had envisaged… You certainly have captured a true likeness.
