dan-painting

Welcome to "dangreenmilitaryart.com" which combines two great passions of mine: military history and a love of finely detailed painting.

Military history and uniforms have always been of great interest to me. I am very fortunate that I can combine this love with my passion for art. Initially spending a number of years in Kent Police following a History of Art degree in London, I finally pursued a degree course in Fine Art, obtaining a First class BA in Fine Art at Canterbury. For the last 22 years, I have been painting and teaching art full time.

All my original paintings are in watercolour and gouache on acid-free watercolour paper. Each painting involves a great deal of meticulous research both into the details of the uniform and equipment. This applies also to the backgrounds, where I wherever possible try to place the figure in an environment that they would have been in, pertinent to their military service or role.

The majority of the paintings you can see on this site are based on actual named people from the past. For some, I have images or photographs, for others just the barest of details of their regiment, but about whom something, no matter how little is known. This can add greater poignancy to the painting, especially with those paintings representing people of the more recent past.

The uniforms depicted on the gallery pages are just a sample of those periods which  I have covered, so if there is not a period shown that you are interested in, or a particular uniform, by all means, feel free to get in touch and I shall be happy to discuss any commissions via the contact form here.

Much of the work I do is to commission and can be found in collections around the UK and the Republic of Ireland as well as across mainland Europe, the USA, and Australia.

Whilst I live in Northern France, I maintain a studio in the UK, where I am based in Wateringbury, near Maidstone in Kent. I am able to receive visitors, by prior appointment only, if you live nearby and wish to talk over a project.

The studio address is Novus Studio, 339 Redhill, Wateringbury, Maidstone, Kent, ME18 5LB or I can be contacted on +44(0) 7702 568900 or email dan@novusart.co.uk
